Call Progressives In Key States About Tax Reform
Help put pressure on representatives in states who will make or break the proposed Republican Tax Cuts by calling progressives in those key states. Use this Indivisible tool to begin making phone calls.
Here is how it works:
(1) You set up an account
(2) The Tool will give you a script and some guidelines. You are asking progressives to please call their representatives
(3) You make phone calls and begin building connections across State boundaries.

- The Proposed tax cuts are a massive give-away to the wealthiest americans at the potential expense of funding programs that most Americans rely on.
- Cuts to middle income Americans are set to expire, while cuts for the richest 0.1% of Americans do not expire. While some middle-income families with children may see a tax increase within the first year, most working families will see a tax increase within a few years as these cuts expire for middle income brackets. Meanwhile, the wealthiest Americans will continue to see cuts that are permanent (see previous links).
- The Republican belief behind these Tax Cuts is that the increased wealth to huge corporations and the wealthiest Americans will be turned into new jobs and increased wages. This is a handy pop-economic idea, but all of the data from the past 30 years argue against these types of policies. Also see here and here and here.
- Rather than invest in more jobs and higher wages, corporations typically reinvest additional income into finance (e.g. wallstreet) or distribute it among the top earners through bonuses, shareholder payouts, and ever larger wages for management. The US GDP has grown since Reagan and yet working Americans find it harder and harder to keep their heads above water partly because all of that wealth is concentrated in finance and a smaller percentage of Americans (see here and here and here). The Republican tax proposal in trickle down economics, a phrase too perfect since working Americans know too well how hard it is to live on a trickle. Let's flex our muscles, make some phone calls and together we can stop this misplace tax cut for the wealthy and redirect it to working Americans!

(see our blog for more information)
October 27--We wrote letters in support of the OISE letter asking the Cornell Administration to keep Obama era Title IX guidelines in place.
October 16-- We called our representatives to remind them about the links between climate change and extreme weather events such as hurricanes Irma and Harvey. While the Trump administration has been fairly unsuccessful at passing major legislation, Scott Pruitt at the EPA has been dismantling environmental protections and policies that address climate change. These rollbacks on environmental protections threaten human health and the quality of life for both ourselves and our children!
September 26 -- We helped register voters for National Voter Registration Day. Like our Orientation event, we registered over 50 new voters!
September 24 -- Our members helped register new voters and inform voters about the upcoming New York Constitutional Convention. This effort was spearheaded by NY23Votes.
September 22 -- We joined thousands of other people and groups coordinating phone calls to our Senators in opposition to what is now the defunct Graham-Cassidy bill.
August -- We helped register new graduate students to vote in our district. We registered over 50 new voters in only a few hours.
May 7th -- We helped NY23Votes register new voters in our district.
March 28 Raise the Age -- We called our state Reps about criminal justice reform and raise the age. After a week of saying he was looking into criminal justice reform, today O'Mara's staff told us he supports raise the age for non-violent offenders. That's a step though we do wish he would realize that 16 year olds are children regardless of the particulars of how they are being prosecuted!
March 22 Don't Repeal the ACA!! -- We wrote over 46 postcards and letters to our Representatives about the importance of the ACA.
March 14th EPA and Climate Change -- We made over 64 phone calls to our congressional representatives in support of a functional EPA and in response to Scott Pruitt's recent falsehoods that carbon dioxide is not a greenhouse gas (for the record it is!)
March 8th Immigration and Refugee Rights -- We sent over 23 letters and 7 postcards to our representatives in opposition to muslim bans and in support of immigrant and refugee rights.
February 28th ACA -- We made over 72 phone calls to our congressional representatives in support of the ACA.
